When you have a special occasion coming up, it is understandable that you want to look your best and there are lots of different things that you can do to help you achieve that. If it is the position of your teeth that is causing you to feel self-conscious about your appearance, you may think that there isn’t enough time to improve it. Fortunately, with Six Month Smiles, you can achieve a straight smile in time for that all-important event.

What are Six Month Smiles?

Six Month Smiles is an innovative cosmetic dentistry solution that is designed for adults who want the benefit of a straighter smile but need to achieve it in just a few months, rather than the 12-24 months usually needed for conventional orthodontic treatment. This is because a Six Month Smile is more focused on the alignment of teeth at the front and side of each arch, rather than trying to change the position of back teeth and your bite – which are the elements that make the regular orthodontic treatment take as long as it does.

What makes Six Month Smiles different to conventional orthodontic braces?

Six Month Smiles are not dissimilar to regular braces. In fact, the treatment is based on the same system of using consistent, low force to gently move your teeth into their new and improved positions. However, unlike traditional braces, Six Month Smiles braces use clear and tooth-colored materials that make them almost impossible to see and therefore offer patients unrivalled discretion. This makes the treatment far more socially acceptable for some people who are concerned about how their teeth would look when wearing regular, metal braces.

Whilst it would usually take anywhere from 12-24 months for a conventional orthodontic treatment plan to be completed and your teeth to be made as straight as possible, Six Month Smiles are designed to do exactly what their name suggests – straighten out your teeth in six months or less. You will need to attend regular appointments, around once every 4 weeks, to adjust your Six Month Smiles brace. At the end of your treatment, you should have the smile that you have been dreaming of.

Since the Six Month Smiles treatment program is much shorter than that needed for traditional braces, this solution is usually less expensive.

Brushing your teeth as a Six Month Smiles patient

Unsurprisingly, one of the trickiest aspects of Six Months Smiles treatment is getting to grips with brushing your teeth. Negotiating brackets and wires is far from straightforward, but this doesn’t mean that it is impossible. You will just need to adjust your tools and technique. Opt for a small, round-headed toothbrush to give you the most space for moving it around inside your mouth. Start by ringing your mouth so that any lose particles are washed away. Then tilt your brush at a 45-degree angle and clean as usual, angling the bristles to clean the top and then the bottom of each bracket and around and underneath the wires. Use an interdental brush to get fully under each part of the wire and to get between your teeth.

Proper brushing is especially important when you are wearing any sort of brace. Failing to do can compromise the way your smile looks since dark marks and decay can form on your newly-straightened teeth.
